I develop my project idea — I plan, fund & set up my project
Before active project work begins, clarify how the project will be organised, funded and supported, what materials and research outputs are expected, and how rights, responsibilities, infrastructure and data management will be handled from the start.
What should I be focusing on now?
- What is the scope of the project, and who is responsible for which tasks and decisions?
- Which funding opportunities and funder requirements apply to the project?
- What data, materials, documentation and artistic or research outputs will the project create, collect or reuse?
- Do I need a Data Management Plan, and what should it cover?
- Which copyright, permissions, licences or third-party rights need to be clarified early?
- Will the project involve personal, sensitive, confidential or ethically complex materials?
- How should files and folders be organised and named from the beginning?
- Where will project materials be stored, how will they be backed up, and who should have access?
- Which institutional infrastructure, services and tools are appropriate for the project?
- How should collaboration, shared accounts, access groups and handover responsibilities be set up?
- What is the minimum setup needed if this is a small or low-complexity project?
- Which decisions should be reviewed again as the project develops?
